Ku\u0107no kompostiranje mo\u017ee biti korisno iz nekoliko razloga: pobolj\u0161ava zdravlje tla i njegovu sposobnost zadr\u017eavanja vode; smanjuje potrebu za umjetnim gnojivima i pesticidima; smanjuje koli\u010dinu otpada koji se \u0161alje na odlagali\u0161ta.<\/p>\n

Kompost pun hranjivih tvari zahtijeva \u010detiri sastojka: zelene, sme\u0111e, zrak i vodu. Zelene su otpaci povr\u0107a (molimo, bez kuhanog povr\u0107a!), ostaci vo\u0107a, vre\u0107ice od \u010daja, rezani dijelovi biljaka i otkosi trave – ovi se brzo razgra\u0111uju i proizvode potreban du\u0161ik i vlagu. Sme\u0111i materijali uklju\u010duju: karton, kutije od jaja, zgu\u017evani papir, gran\u010dice, opalo li\u0161\u0107e i tako\u0111er ljuske jaja. Sme\u0111i materijali se sporije razgra\u0111uju; pru\u017eaju vlakna, ugljik i stvaraju va\u017ene zra\u010dne d\u017eepove. Obi\u010dno ne biste trebali stavljati sljede\u0107e u svoju kompostnu hrpu: kuhano povr\u0107e, meso i mlije\u010dne proizvode, kosti, masti, ulja, bolesne biljke, izmet ku\u0107nih ljubimaca ili pelene za bebe. Oni mogu privu\u0107i glodavce i druge \u0161teto\u010dine.<\/p>\n

Za kompostiranje kod ku\u0107e, morate slo\u017eiti organske materijale kako biste formirali kompostnu hrpu; to mo\u017eete u\u010diniti pomo\u0107u jednostavno izra\u0111enih kutija. Alternativno, mo\u017eete nabaviti kompostnu kantu s otvorima za zrak i poklopcem. Naj\u010de\u0161\u0107i na\u010din kompostiranja je “spora tehnika slaganja” gdje korisnik redovito dodaje organsku tvar u spremnik, a ona se prirodno razgra\u0111uje u kompost. Pazite da odr\u017eavate ispravan omjer ugljika prema du\u0161iku (25-30 prema jedan); kako biste to postigli, morate mije\u0161ati materijale bogate ugljikom (slama, li\u0161\u0107e, karton, itd.) s materijalima bogatim du\u0161ikom poput otkosa trave, sirovog vo\u0107a i povr\u0107a. Ovisno o vremenskim uvjetima, mo\u017eda \u0107ete morati dodati vodu na hrpu. Redovito mije\u0161anje sadr\u017eaja tako\u0111er se sna\u017eno preporu\u010duje kako biste ubrzali proces.
